Work in Progress | B&V 3D is in soft launch while we refine the site, quote tools, and live catalog.
B&V 3D

Resources

From idea to a print-ready model.

You do not need to be a CAD expert to work with B&V 3D. These tools and practical checks can help turn a sketch, measurement, reference image, or concept into geometry ready for quoting.

Starter guides

Three practical paths from concept to printable geometry.

Mechanical part workflow

  1. 1Measure the real part or define the critical dimensions.
  2. 2Sketch the main profile in Shapr3D, Tinkercad, Blender, or another CAD tool.
  3. 3Extrude the body, add holes and clearances, then check wall thickness.
  4. 4Export a 3MF, STL, or OBJ in millimeters and verify the final dimensions before quoting.

Organic / sculpted workflow

  1. 1Block out the overall silhouette before adding fine surface detail.
  2. 2Keep separate pieces intentional and remove hidden or duplicate interior shells.
  3. 3Remesh or simplify extremely dense geometry, then repair holes and non-manifold areas.
  4. 4Export a watertight mesh and check that the smallest features are large enough to print.

AI concept workflow

  1. 1Generate the starting shape from a prompt, sketch, or reference image.
  2. 2Open the result in a modeling tool instead of treating the AI output as production-ready.
  3. 3Correct scale, wall thickness, intersecting geometry, unsupported details, and open surfaces.
  4. 4Export a clean supported format, preview it in the B&V 3D quote tool, and include notes about intended size and use.

File preparation

Six checks before you upload.

01

Confirm scale

Model in real-world dimensions and verify the exported dimensions before submitting. STL and OBJ do not reliably carry unit metadata, so B&V 3D treats their model units as millimeters.

02

Make the mesh watertight

Close holes, remove self-intersections, and avoid internal duplicate surfaces. A closed/manifold mesh produces a much more reliable volume and cost estimate.

03

Use practical wall thickness

Very thin walls may disappear in slicing or require a smaller nozzle. For functional parts, thickness should reflect the load, material, and print orientation.

04

Design around print orientation

Layer direction affects strength, support needs, visible surfaces, and dimensional accuracy. Mention critical faces or load directions in the quote notes.

05

Keep tolerances intentional

For mating or moving parts, include the fit you expect. Printed dimensions, holes, snap fits, and sliding clearances often need intentional allowance.

06

Prefer clean geometry

Remove hidden bodies and unnecessary high-density mesh detail. Cleaner files preview faster, upload more reliably, and are easier to manufacture.

Quote-ready formats

The interactive quote viewer currently supports STL, 3MF, OBJ, AMF, GLB, self-contained glTF, PLY, and FBX geometry. For glTF, use embedded data or GLB rather than a separate external .bin file. Bambu Studio can import additional CAD formats such as STEP/STP, but STEP is not yet part of B&V 3D's browser-based automatic volume estimator. Export STEP designs to 3MF, STL, or OBJ for the automated quote, or contact us for a manual review.

Have the idea, but not the file?

Send B&V 3D the project context and what the part needs to do. We can help identify what information is still needed before a printable model can be evaluated.
